Preamble
The Manitoba Security Rebate Program provides financial assistance to homeowners and tenants for the purchase and installation of security equipment. The program aims to reduce property crime and promote safer neighbourhoods throughout the province. Eligible Manitobans can receive up to $300 (excluding tax) for the purchase and installation of qualifying security equipment.

What is the Manitoba Security Rebate Program?
The Manitoba Security Rebate Program provides financial assistance to homeowners and tenants for the purchase and installation of security equipment or enhancements to prevent property crimes. The program aims to reduce property crime and promote safer neighborhoods.
Who is eligible for the rebate?
Manitoba homeowners (including landlords, cottage owners, and individual condominium owners) and tenants who have purchased and installed qualifying security equipment or enhancements on or after August 23, 2024.
Is there a deadline to apply for the rebate?
There is no deadline. However, applications are processed on a first-come, first-served basis. The program will close once the maximum $2M fund has been reached.
How much is the rebate?
The maximum rebate is $300 per property or rental unit. There is no limit to the number of eligible pieces of security equipment or enhancements per application.
How is the rebate calculated?
The net amount (before taxes) of each eligible item is added to a maximum of $300 per property.
How will the rebate be paid?
Approved applicants will receive the rebate by direct deposit to their bank account.
Can I apply for multiple properties or rental units?
No. You can apply one time for one property or rental unit. Additional applications will not be accepted.
Is a cottage eligible for the rebate?
Yes. However, you may only apply for the rebate on one property. The cottage owner does not need to live in Manitoba; however, the property must be located within the province.
I am a homeowner, what security equipment or enhancements can I claim for?
The following items are eligible and must be purchased new:
- Indoor/Outdoor security camera (any type)
- Doorbell camera (any type)
- Indoor/Outdoor alarm system (any type)
- Indoor/Outdoor motion detector (any type)
- Reinforced or metal door
- Window security bars (any size)
- Glass break sensor
- Shatterproof/rock glass
- Protective films for glass
- Impact protection systems
- Windows with tempered, laminated or impact resistant glass
- Anti-graffiti film, paint and coatings
- Permanent wood or metal security gate (no chain link)

I am a tenant, what security equipment can I claim for?
Please refer to the terms of your rental agreement before purchasing and installing security equipment. Under The Residential Tenancies Act, a renter cannot make permanent changes to the property.
The following items are eligible and must be purchased new:
- Indoor/Outdoor security camera (any type)
- Doorbell camera (any type)
- Indoor/Outdoor alarm system (any type)
- Indoor/Outdoor motion detector (any type)
- Accessories for installation or operation - SD cards, nails, screws, brackets, cables, solar panels
What security equipment or enhancements are not eligible?
- Repairs to property including vandalism
- Labour costs
- Rental costs
- Subscriptions or monthly fees
- Software upgrades
- Taxes
What documents are required from homeowners to apply?
Please ensure documents and photos are clear and readable prior to uploading:
- Proof of identity

- 2024 Property Tax Assessment or

My application was not eligible for the rebate, can I appeal?
There is no appeal process to dispute the outcome of your application. The Security Rebate Program will send an email explaining the reason the application was not eligible.

How does Government of Manitoba keep my personal information safe?
The Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA) requires the Government of Manitoba to collect, use and disclose personal information such as name, contact information, copies of personal documents, etc. in a manner that protects an individual's privacy.
The Security Rebate Program has ensured compliance with FIPPA and that all agreements and security features are in place to protect the privacy of Manitobans using the Security Rebate Registry System.
